Vanessa Cozza is an assistant professor of English at Washington State University Tri-
Cities. Her research interests include student enculturation and assimilation; cultural differences
in communication styles and their impact on literacy learning; visual literacy and activist
rhetoric; and writing studies. Her current scholarship focuses on investigating the rhetoric of public street art, including stencils, murals, and photography. Specifically, she has been looking at how this type of visual rhetoric tells a history, addresses political controversies, and makes art more accessible to a broader audience.
